Suitable for beginners of all ages, people working with injuries, mobility issues, disease recovery, and stress reduction.

Taught by Kathleen Gregory on Mondays and Wednesdays, and by Erin Noland on Fridays.

Hatha Yoga:
The hour long Hatha Yoga classes incorporate many of the poses from Ashtanga series but it spends more time breaking them down and less time doing sun salutations! It also incorporates moves from Pilates, Iyengar and Viniyoga traditions. For those of you tired of the repetitive strain on your wrists and shoulders from all of the Ashtanga vinyasas, or sun salutations, this might be a great alternative! For those of you new to yoga or with limited range of motion or energy this is an excellent place to start. There is wall work in this class and it slows things down enough to talk about some of the details of the poses.

Taught by Chris Allen.

Pranayama:
While the physical practice of yoga is very good in aligning your posture, grounding your restlessness and letting you dance with Spirit there comes a time when it is important to slow it down, breath and meditate! This class is a half hour of deep breathing exercises designed to balance your masculine and feminine sides as well as integrate you physical being with your energetic being. It teaches focus, helps you withdraw from your senses and your mind and helps connect you to a higher realm of consciousness.

Led by Chris Allen.

Yoga Sutras:
In about 300 BC Patanjali wrote down his terse explanation of the tenets of yoga as a guide to spiritual evolution. There have been countless translations and interpretations of these sutras (threads) since. In this class we use three different sources to explore the depth of Patanjali’s teachings. It is a study class, much like a bible study, where we take turns reading the translations and discussing them and how they relate to our everyday lives. This is an ongoing class, all are welcome!!

Facilitated by Chris Allen.

Intro to First Series A
A noncompetitive, energetic introduction to the vinyasa yoga style. We emphasize breathing and put some of the easier poses of Ashtanga Yoga to World Beat and Nouveau Flamenco music to you into the flow and rhythm of your body. Ideal for the beginning Ashtanga student but still a good workout for continuing students. Strong emphasis on coordinating breath with movement. Detailed instruction and hands-on adjustments. Builds the foundation and endurance for more difficult classes.

Taught by Chris Allen.

Intro to First Series B
Same as Introduction to First Series A but more energetic and with a few more difficult poses. Requires more indurance and flexability than Into A. Intro A gets you ready for Introduction to First Series "B" and Intro B gets you ready for the full First Series. They are designed to be progressively more difficult so as you gain stamina you have more difficult classes to challange yourself with. Introduction to First Series B pushes the student a little further into the poses of the full First Series. A great sweaty workout!

First Saturday Breathing and Journeying
A deep and powerful way to access your higher self. Many Native American traditions use journeying to the Dream Lodge and conversations with power animals as a way to access the parts of ourselves we cannot quite reach in our waking states. A journey is a guided meditation to a sacred or enchanted world. This Dream Lodge, as it is traditionally called, is the equivalent of our unconscious mind. It holds many dark mysteries that come to us only while we sleep, in symbolic form. In many indigenous cultures animals symbolize different qualities and perspectives found within the each of us. As we enter the Dream Lodge we invite animal archetypes or Power Animals to share their perceptual powers with us to illuminate the unconscious parts of our true selves that we can’t see. Great self realization and healing comes from speaking with and owning our whole selves, consciously.

The class begins with a review of the chakra system followed by a series of breathing exercises (see Pranayama class for more detail) to help the practitioner transition into a light trance state. From there we collectively choose a Power Animal to visit on the journey. While the journey is collective the information you will receive is specific to you. The class ends with chakra rebalancing and a voluntary discussion of the journey. It is a gentle introduction to the power of shamanic healing, a great way to part the veils of illusion, and an intimate way of bonding with your spiritual community. Please RSVP (by email) by that Friday PM, as it requires a 4 person minimim to be held.

Facilitated by Chris Allen.

First Series:
A set series (designed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois) of classical hatha yoga poses linked together by sun salutations (or vinyasas). A strong emphasis on synchronizing breath with movement. The series focuses on opening and realigning the shoulders and hips to give the spine an optimal range of movement. Offered playfully but deeply with some verbal instruction. Considered a rigorous workout by most practitioners! Not for the faint of heart!

Taught by Susan Taylor.

Improvisational (Improv):
Improv is a creative vinyasa style yoga class, led to fun music, without the traditional Ashtanga sequencing. This class takes the knowledge and wisdom of the traditional Ashtanga practice, twists it on its ear, deepens it and hands it back to you with a big smile! By requesting poses YOU want to work on YOU help create the class! Step out of the traditional First Series and Intro to First Series sequencing and come play with alternative approaches, preps and related poses. If you can do Intro B, you can do Improv!! A great way to shake the dust off that rebellious rocker inside of you!

Iyengar Yoga:
What is Iyengar Yoga? Iyengar yoga is based on the teachings of living yoga master, BKS Iyengar, author of the renowned yoga treatise, Light on Yoga. Mr. Iyengar’s intense personal practice and more than 70 years of teaching yoga have produced significant innovations in the teaching of this ancient art. Noteworthy of the Iyengar teaching methodology —
• Emphasis on body alignment to develop strength, stamina, & concentration
• A systematic progression of poses to develop a student’s ability both within each class and from class to class
• Precise use of words and demonstration to assist learning the proper action, individual correction, and adjustment in a pose
• Use of props such as blankets, blocks, or straps to facilitate learning and adjust poses to individual needs
• Instruction in ways one’s yoga practice can aid and ease various ailments and stress
• A complete approach to self-study and transformation bringing the practitioner physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing.
